Prof. José Luiz,

Thank you so very much for your beautiful PowerPoint of the history of our Arboretum.I will share it with my students tomorrow, and I know they will enjoy viewing it very much.It must have taken you a great deal of time and work to have put together something so nice. We are entering our last days of school, our last complete week, actually. It has been raining, but we still hope to get out into the arboretum one more time to measure our trees and to enter the data into a table for our website. It is taking the students a little more time than I thought it would. They are learning how important it is to take accurate measurements, and to use the metric system when doing so. They are also learning quickly the difference between circumference and diameter! Thank you again for your PowerPoint, and for the wishes you sent for our Summer Break.Have a wonderful week...

Dear friend, Ron:

Thanks for the Albums from Brazil. I wnat to know how can I access them out of my e-mail. Is it possible? In which site? I'm sure it would be better for everyone to access it, speccialy the children or our Project.

Excuse me for the question I made before about the GPS points. Afterwards, I went again to your site and found them in the list of your trees. So it is not necessary, anymore. Excuse me, again!

Best wishes!

Prof. José Luiz Mattos

Dear friends from Riddle School,

Here is Prof. José Luiz Mattos. This morning, I almost had a heart attack when I oppened my e-mail. I saw all your messaages, all the programme online you made, and almost came into tears. Wonderfull! I have no words to express it better. But I know that somewhere up there, there must be  God that is to bless what we (here in Brazil and there in the USA) are doing in order to change people behavior concerning environmental subjets.

Well! let me first take a breath! ......

Now, I want to thank you all (teachers and children) for this online display. Here, for instance, we are to organize our own site, but I think it will last some days yet. But, be sure, your example came to motivate us towards it.

I promise you that I'll do my best to show all the students your site and give you an answer to your did.

God blesses all of you!!

Best wishes!

Prof. José Luiz Mattos

Dear friends,

Thanks for your last message. I wonder you could come and visit us, whenever you wish. We are to inaugurate officialy our Arboretum. I don't know how are your activities during your year, but if there were a chance for you to come, we'd be very, very happy and gratefull. Imagine the happyness of our students!

I'm sending more pictures. Here we are in the autumn. It's very, very dry, and in many places we do not have water. Our trees are feeling hard this dryness, but we are fighting in order to keep them well.

Best wishes!

Dear friend Nancy,

Did you received my last message? Thank you, once more, for the pictures. I've sent you the "Lista das árvores revisada", a list with all the names of our trees, from our Project. Did you received it? In case not, I'll send you again. Otherwise, you can access the following site to see more pictures:

www.portaldenoticias.com.br

As soon as you get there, go to the point "Ajbum de fotos", then to "fotos do Arvoredo", and there'll be the pictures which show the day of the plantation (the first day).

Best wishes!

Dear friends Ron and Nancy,

Thanks for your pictures and your answer to my message. Children are very pridefull and soon I believe they will get in contact with you. For awhile, I'm sending some pictures showing the speccies we are cultivating in our School Arboretum which is named Wangari Maathai.

The list anexed contains the name of the trees: portuguese name, cientific name and the family name of each tree. Afterwards, I'll send you the pictures of each tree with the name. I had difficulty in preparing them to send by e-mail.

Best wishes

Prof. José Luiz Mattos

Dear friends Ron and Nancy,
Excuse me!!!! I made a serious mistake, because the pictures I'd sent were to NCArboretum (a oficial one). Your Arboretum is a School Arboretum (Is it a private school?)
Otherwise, thanks for your compreehension: children will be very happy for knowing your licence on the use of the e-mail and site (I'll show a Speccial PPoint Programme about your Arboretum, from the Internet). If you have more pctures to enrich it, I'd be very glad. I'll try to send now some pictures, and then more others pictures from our Arboretum.

Best wishes!

PS: Soon, children are going to contact you online.

Dear friends,

Don't be sorry because of your Project for awhile. As time passes by, I'm sure your are to get it and share it with us. Wer only tried to show you something very simple, but very important we're doing here in our school, in our city.

I'd like to know whether there is a possibility for you to come to our country and visit us or not. Certainlly, we should be very happy and gratified for it, specially the children of our school, those you have seen in the pictures i sent you.

Later, I'll be sending more informations and change some ideas with you, ok?

Another question: may I give your site and/or e-mail for the children to get in contact with you? Their english teacher, of course, will help them doing this.

Best wishes!

Dear friends from Riddle School,

My name is José Luiz de Moraes Mattos. I am the Coordinator of the Wangari Maathai's Arboretum, located into an a little area of 2.500m² in our school space. Here we have since Pre-School to High School, about 1.700 students. As we have many environmental problems in our city (São Jerônimo) and in our Region (Carbon Region), we resolved to built this Arboretum to provide the students and our Comunities with the opportunity to live in good terms with nature, planting trees, taking care of them, having speachs about them and Environmental Education. At the same time, people can enjoy themselves playing soccer in the field built in the middle of the Arboretum, because the idea is just to make conections betwen people and nature.

When I opened your Project on the Internet, I could see a chance of changing ideas with you there. I wish to show our admiration for the Project RESCUE, which is going to be an example for us. Our school is named Instituto Estadual de Educação São Jerônimo.

Later, I'll send you some photos and others things concerning our project.

Best wishes,

Prof. José Luiz de Moraes Mattos
